One of the old myths about training a dog is that a dog should do things for us just because they want to please us. Many popular, but extremely outdated training books have even suggested that you should never reward your dog with food. Now take a minute and think. How many management text books have you read that suggest employees should only work to please us and that we should never compensate workers with money. Right… none, at least none written in this century. The fact is dogs are like us in that they do something because there is something in it for them They also work much cheaper… it’s amazing how far you can get with a few tiny treats.
