Here at Green Acres Kennel Shop we're making May Dog Bite Prevention month. Why? Because fifty percent of all children will be bitten by a dog during their childhood. That's a statistic we want to help change.
Whenever you leave your children with a babysitter or caregiver, make sure that they know how to supervise the children and the dog. Things babysitters MUST know:
NEVER leave the children and dog alone together, not for even a second.
The children and dog should not be interacting when the parents are not home.
The children should not be allowed to bother the dog when it is eating, sleeping, or chewing on something in its special place.
How to get the dog safely into their crate or other location, using food rewards, NOT force, where the dog can be separated from the children.
Basic dog body language so that they can tell if the dog is becoming stressed or anxious.
