Electronic shock collars are used on dogs to keep them in the yard, to train them, and to stop barking. Often they are used without the dog's owners fully understanding the huge potential for negative consequences associated with the use of electric shock. In this show Don and Kate will discuss why Green Acres Kennel Shop discourages the use of shock collars for any reason. We'll discuss what shock collars are, how they work and what they're used for as well as alternatives to shock collars. We'll discuss why we discourage their use and some of the dogs we have seen that have been negatively affected by being shocked. We'll also discuss what veterinary behavioral experts say about shock collars as well as an article on the Green Acres website (www.greenacreskennel.com) which explores this topic in more detail and includes links to research in this area.
