It’s Pet Dentistry month and time for our annual show on the importance of dental health for our pets. The American Veterinary Medical Association website reports that more than 85% of dogs and cats that are at least 4 years old have a condition in which bacteria attack the soft gum tissue - periodontal disease. This can contribute to even more serious health issues. Kate and Don talk with Dr. Dave Cloutier of the Veazie Veterinary Clinic about why it’s so important to have your veterinarian include a through dental exam as part of your pet’s annual wellness checkup. We discuss the benefits of having this exam performed by a veterinarian and what the procedure entails. Dental issues specific to both cats and dogs are reviewed as well as what you can do to at home to promote dental health and thereby minimize the need for dental procedures at the vets.
