Not all pets need to be groomed by a professional, but all pets, no matter the length of their coat, should be groomed at least once a week. A weekly grooming should include checking your pet's nails and trimming them as necessary as well as brushing and thoroughly examining their coat and skin. The more frequently you brush your pet, the less likely they will be to develop matts. A matt can be difficult for you to remove and can cause a great deal of discomfort to your pet.
Long haired pets like Persian cats, Shelties, Poodles and many other breeds should be brushed at least two to three times per week. These are the breeds that will also benefit from having their hair trimmed on a regular basis. A visit to a groomer every four to six weeks can aid greatly in this process.
Bathing your dog, every four to six weeks, with a shampoo made for dogs, will keep Fido smelling nice and will help keep his skin and coat healthy.
