This time of year Kate and Don always do a show on spaying and neutering with one of our local veterinarians. The spaying and neutering of our pets have significant implications both from an animal welfare and health perspective. While the health benefits of spaying and neutering have been promoted for years, new information has made this subject less black and white.
In this year's show, we look at new studies on the effects of spaying and neutering with assistance from Dr. David Cloutier from the Veazie Veterinary Clinic. We discuss the pros and cons of spaying and neutering as well as the best time to do these procedures. We look at medical implications, surgical risk, the risk of cancer, and behavioral considerations.
If your new pet is intact, we recommend that you begin having the conversation about spaying and neutering at your pet's first appointment with their veterinarian as there is much you need to consider.
