It's Spay/Neuter Awareness Month so Kate and Don talk with Sharon Secovich about various spay and neuter programs in Maine starting with Help Fix ME. This is a state run program for low income households that need help being able to afford to spay or neuter their cat or dog. This voucher program enables qualified participants to get their cat neutered for $10 and a pit bull or pit bull mixed neutered for $20. At this time the program is focusing on cats and the dog breed that shows up in Maine shelters most frequently. This program is not funded by tax payers but is funded almost entirely through pet lovers through the adopt/animal welfare license plate. Sharon also discusses how spaying and neutering saves lives. If you think you or someone you know might qualify for Help Fix ME you can learn more at: http://www.spaymaine.org/ or 1-800-367-1317. We also discuss other programs and low-cost clinics available throughout the state which are listed at the previously listed website. One of these is the Cleo Fund. Lastly we recognize the many veterinarians throughout the state that participate in these programs. THANK YOU!!!
