Here at Green Acres Kennel Shop we're making May Dog Bite Prevention month. Why? Because fifty percent of all children will be bitten by a dog during their childhood. That's a statistic we want to help change.
The basic rule that always should be followed with dogs and children is - SUPERVISE AT ALL TIMES.
Consider these steps if you are expecting:
Start varying your dog's feeding and exercise schedules and begin to accustom your dog to increased periods of time alone.
Carry a doll in your arms and practice SIT , DOWN, LEAVE IT and STAY while your hands are full and while you go up and down stairs and through doors. Reward your dog with food for the desired behavior.
Introduce your dog to baby sounds, scents and equipment like strollers before the baby arrives. Reward the dog for calm behavior around baby equipment with food rewards.
